The filibuster is over and the Marketplace Fairness Act is on the way for the Senate Vote in the upcoming days. The passing of the Act and movement to the House for debate and vote would be next. ICSC and numerous other supporters of the Act are making their final push to get it passed. The Act would put the responsibility of collecting the appropriate sales tax on good sold online. Currently the responsibility rest on the purchaser to pay the tax at the end of the year with their income tax. I would venture a guess that well over half of Americans are aware of this responsibility. In the rare event that the individuals know I'd go one step further to say they don't pay the tax because the likelihood of it getting them audited is slim to none. The Marketplace Fairness Act will bring the tax to the sales counter at online stores just like the brick and mortar and start to level the playing field. If you like going to a store to purchase a product and put it in your hand before you buy it you should be on board with this measure. Reach out and let you representatives in Washington know how you feel.
