The internet of things has just become lifesaving.
There is a new device that has been advertised on television
called Kardia Mobile. Used with an app
that you download to your phone, it will take your EKG by placing two fingers
of each hand on the device and letting the app read your heart rhythm.
The app will tell you if it thinks your heart rate is in a
normal range or if it thinks you are in AFib, or Atrial Fibrillation, which is
an irregular heartbeat that can be dangerous if not treated.
Even more amazingly, the device will convert that EKG into a
PDF file that you can email to your doctor so he or she can see what is going
on with you at that very moment.
In a recent article on MedPageToday, one physician, Dr.
Anthony Pearson, described how using the device in his practice has helped him
and his patients keep track of when they are going into AFib so that the
appropriate action can be taken.
While some of his patients pay an additional fee to connect
to his network, that is not necessary to record and send the PDF to a doctor if
you have the Kardia Mobile device.
The Kardia Mobile device can be bought on Amazon.com for $99
or for the same price though the manufacturer.
