Jacksonville-based Crowley Maritime Corp. is restructuring itself into three business units in order to attract more government contracts.
The units will include Crowley Shipping, Crowley Fuels and Crowley Solutions.
“We are building a best-in-class logistics company that provides elite liner services and supply chain solutions,” Chairman and CEO Tom Crowley said in a released statement. “We are enthusiastic that these changes – driven by all our employees, who power our high performing culture, will help us reach our mutual goals of enhanced efficiency and growth.”
Crowley Shipping will be responsible for maritime operations including deep sea petroleum transportation, ship escort services, tug and barge fleets and commercial ship management, among other duties. Rob Grune, senior vice president and general management will oversee it.
Crowley Fuels will sell and distribute liquefied natural gas, a growing maritime fuel, and will be responsible for fuel sales and distribution in Alaska. Senior Vice President Rocky Smith will oversee this division.
Crowley Solutions will include engineering and project management services, naval architecture, government vessel management and a unified government business development. Todd Busch, senior vice president and general manager, will oversee the third division.
“This plan facilitates a pivot towards growing the company’s government portfolio of work, building upon recent successes such as our recent $2.3 billion Defense Freight Transportation Services contract award and our current work with FEMA to bring much-needed supplies to Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands,” said Crowley. “The alignments within Crowley Shipping and Crowley Fuels better tie our markets, customers, processes and technology together to be more responsive, efficient and cost effective.”
A fourth division, Crowley Logistics, will come online in the next few years. It will be responsible for liner shipping and logistics business units.
