$15,000.00 REWARD

OVER LAST WEEKEND, ARSONIST(S) set more than 20 forest fires in Levy County.  The land owner and the Florida Forestry Service have arranged a $15,000 reward for information, see the article below.  If you were in that area and saw something suspicious, call the Gainesville office of the Florida Forestry Service at (352) 955-2005.

Gainesville, Fl.--- The Florida Forestry Service and a Levy County private landowner are offering a reward for information regarding a string of arsons over the weekend.

Fire officials say the people who started the fire walked through and ignited over 20 different areas of the forest.

"It's just hard to believe that somebody would set this many fires endangering the lives of firefighters and destroying natural resources that belong to private property and the state and  and the federal government, says David Carter from the Florida Forestry Service.”

A $15,000 award is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the suspects involved in the arson.

The fire damaged resources on privately owned property and is currently under investigation. Officials say many of the wood used for private companies to make paper supplies were ruined in the fire.

Carter says that the biggest concern is “just timber from what the fire actually killed and just the stress from drought." He says that the landowners did not want to be reached for comment due to “repurcussions. someone setting more fires to their stuff or their house and vandalism."

The Florida Forest Service put out a message on Facebook asking anyone with information about the fires to come forward.

Carter says that although they have seen a lot of lightning fires in the area due to the weather, they are confident this latest fire is an isolated  incident.
