On June 10, I met in Orlando with the other members of the nominating committee of the Florida CCIM (Certified Commercial Investment Member) (Realtors) chapter. We were from cities scattered across the state, Pensacola to Miami, Jacksonville and Fort Myers.
Eight CCIM members had applied for the five positions: President Elect, VP Finance, VP Chapter Operations, VP Administration and VP Education. Some were willing to take any one of the several titles. The committee members spent four hours considering the applicants and the required qualifications, including a speaker phone conversation with each candidate, before voting on the list. Our choices were sent to the Board of Directors and with their approval, will be sent to all members in the state for a vote.
CCIM has about 13,000 members around the world, including candidates for the designation. All of us with the CCIM pin have gone through a series of four courses of four days each, plus exam, then ethics and negotiation classes on line. If you would like to study in Moscow, Tokyo, Shanghai, Warsaw or London instead of state-side, courses are given in those foreign locations where you could meet locals who are interested in commercial and investment real estate.
