According to a recent article in the Florida Times Union by David Bauerlein, Jacksonville may be the preferred site for a new manufacturing facility. Although the actual identity of the company cannot be announced while the city is considering whether to grant it a $10 million dollar incentive package, it's speculated the company is GE Oil & Gas, a division of GE a Fortune 500 company.
The facility would manufacture control valves for use in the oil and gas industry and employ as many as 500 people. This would be a huge boost to the local economy.
Currently Jacksonville is thought of primarily as a warehousing and logistics hub. Having a strong industrial presence would go a long way to changing the perception of North East Florida among national business leaders.
