Brick and Mortar Retailers Still Scaling Back

I have written on this topic before but felt it was worth posting about again.  The commonality of the instant digital internet driven age is again showing its teeth.  Dish Network who acquired Blockbuster out of Bankruptcy has made the decision to shutter the remaining Brick and Mortar locations.  They will still service their mail order customers for a short period of time and then that will also disappear.  Makes you wonder how long it will take for NetFlix the market leader in that segment to follow suit.  Both are enhancing their digital offerings so they both recognize revenues can still be had but not through the physical product.  The consolidation of Office Depot and Office Max further signal the internet presence in the business sector.  Office managers are no longer going to the stores to purchase office products but ordering online and having them delivered.  Best Buy and other retailers that used to gobble up thousands of SF of space are consolidating down knowing they are merely showrooms and fewer and fewer customers are buying the product in store.  At what point will all of our non service based retail purchases be made online. How much future really exist in the brick and mortar marketplace is hard to guess but for the time being it is looking like the end is closer than what we expected.
