The Florida Times Union is reporting that Jacksonville based Stein Mart Inc. reported an increase in total sales for the second quarter. Stein Mart's sales increased to $290.9 million for the quarter ending August 3. That's a $10 million increase over sales for the same period last year.
Stein Mart has 262 stores throughout the nation and specializes in sports and casual wear for men and women.
While Stein Mart reported an increase in sales, other retailers didn't get the expected bounce from back to school shoppers. Costco Wholesale Corp. usually a strong performer was one of many retailers reporting disappointing sales figures. The back to school season is the second biggest selling season for most retailers behind only the Christmas shopping
season.
