Sailors Sacrifices Remembered

On May 17, 1987 the USS STARKE (FFG-31) was patrolling off the Saudi Arabian coast when she was suddenly attacked by an Iraqi jet aircraft. The Iraqi pilot fired two Exocet missiles at the ship and 37 sailors were killed in the resulting fire and destruction. Friday May 17, 2013 a memorial service was held onboard Mayport Naval Station to remember and honor their sacrifice. We must never forget the brave men and women who defend this great country. This Memorial Day take a moment to reflect on the sacrifices so many brave Americans have made through the years to preserve our freedom. God Bless them and their families.
