Local Economy Adds Jobs

File this story under good news for Jacksonville. According to an article in the Jacksonville Business Journal by Michael Clinton, Bank of America Corporation's Merrill Edge unit is hiring more than 100 investment professionals in Jacksonville this year.
Merrill Edge has more than 2,000 employees in the US and 419 here in Jacksonville. The new positions will be in investment sales, advisory positions, service and operations.
Jacksonville was targeted for the growth due to the level of talent available in the area and for recruiting opportunities afforded by the nearby colleges and universities.
Bank of America is the largest bank in Northeast Florida. There are 37 local branches with over $20 billion in local deposits and a market share of 45%.
This is a hopeful sign that our local economy is on the upswing.
