Jax Chamber will temporarily move
its offices to the Southside while the main building at the corner of East Bay
and Main streets undergoes renovations.
The chamber made the announcement in
a Tuesday news release, saying the offices will close Nov. 1-2 and re-open Nov.
5 at the BBVA/Compass Building near Gate Parkway.
The renovations are part of turning
the chamber's building into "Downtown’s New Front Door," according to
the news release.
“Downtown revitalization is one of
the important steps to recharge our region’s economy,” Jax Chamber President
Wally Lee said in the release. “We want to create an iconic presence in
Downtown Jacksonville, and we hope our renovation will help inspire a
renaissance in our urban core.”
The renovations are expected to last
for seven months. The chamber announced its
intentions to renovate its headquarters in September 2011, following
its
rebranding initiative.
“It will have an extraordinary
impact on Downtown revitalization,” Lee said at the time, “and be quite cool.”
