Don Shula had five basic coaching beliefs that fueled his desire to win.
• Keep winning and losing in perspective- No loss can defeat us, no single victory creates us.
• Lead by example- What we do, more than what we say, will always inspire or de-motivate the team.
• Strive for respect over popularity- The team will not always like what we do, but if it is for the right reasons, they will understand.
• Value character as well as ability- Just because a player performs on the field does not excuse him or her from performing with character off of the field.
• Work hard, but enjoy what you do- If it is not fun, then one day you will be left with little to relish or remember.
